  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg

For the Trail Mix

  • 2 cups popcorn air-popped or lightly salted
  • 1 cup pretzels

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls (medium and large)
  • Baking sheet

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together maple syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg
1½ tbsp maple syrup, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • Add the almond-cashew-walnut mix and toss well to coat evenly.
    2 cups mixed nuts
  • Spread in a single layer on the baking sheet and roast for 10–12 minutes, stirring halfway through. The nuts should look glossy and golden brown.
  • Let the nuts cool completely (about 15 minutes). They’ll crisp up as they cool.
  • In a large bowl, combine your cooled nuts with popcorn, and pretzels. Toss gently.
2 cups popcorn, 1 cup pretzels

Cooking Tips

  • Cool Nuts Completely: The nuts will crisp up only after cooling, so don’t skip this step before mixing with popcorn and pretzels.
  • Don’t Burn the Nuts: Maple syrup can burn quickly; stir halfway and keep an eye on the last few minutes.
  • Add-In Options: Include unsweetened coconut flakes, pumpkin seeds, or dark chocolate chips (in small amounts) for variety.
  • Make it Gluten-Free: Use certified gluten-free pretzels to keep the whole mix safe for gluten-sensitive individuals.
  • Batch Prep: Double the recipe and store in airtight containers for up to 1 week for easy grab-and-go snacks.
  • Holiday Gifting Tip: Pack in mason jars or small treat bags with ribbon for a festive homemade gift.
